AI Companion Mag is an independent publication covering AI companion apps: AI girlfriend and boyfriend chat apps, roleplay platforms, and the image and voice tools built around them. We test the apps ourselves, over weeks rather than minutes, and write down what we actually found.
What we cover
We currently track 26 apps in our directory, rank the strongest of them in our 2026 comparison, and publish in-depth, scored reviews one app at a time. 16 full reviews are live so far, and a new one lands every few days. We also write practical guides on privacy, pricing and where the category is heading.
How we review
Every scored app gets daily use across both the free tier and a paid plan before it earns a number. We score five things that matter day to day: conversation quality, memory, personality control, the free tier, and privacy. Conversation and memory carry the most weight because they are what separate a companion from a chatbot. The full method, including what we deliberately do not score, is on our How We Test page.
When a review is based on public documentation rather than paid hands-on use, we say so at the top of the article and we do not attach a hands-on score to it.
Independence and affiliate links
We are reader-supported. Some buttons on this site are affiliate links: if you sign up through them we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never influence scores, rankings or which apps we cover. Apps do not pay for placement, and we flag paywalled features rather than hide them.

Apps change fast. If a price, feature or policy we describe is out of date, tell us through the contact page and we will re-check and update the article, with the update date shown on the page.
